    Our approach

We understand the child before trying to change them

At Growing Minds, we look at the child as a whole: body, movement, emotions, development and relationships. Our approach is grounded in psychomotricity as it is practised in Belgium and the French-speaking world.

    How do we support you?

    Four gentle steps

    1

    We listen to you

We start by listening to your story, your questions and your worries, in a safe space that gives you time to express yourself, without judgment or criticism.

    2

    We understand what is happening

We look at the child's development, movement, emotions and relationships, to understand what may lie behind their behaviour.

    3

    We find solutions together

We set practical, simple steps that respect your child's needs and fit your family's reality and daily life.

    4

    We move forward together

We follow your child's progress and adjust our steps to their needs, while helping parents gain the confidence and ability to face challenges independently.

The scientific foundations of our approach

Scientific knowledge, and a whole, human perspective

We don't rely on a single theory to explain every behaviour. We combine scientific approaches that help us understand the child within the context of their development, relationships and environment.

Psychomotricity in the Belgian and Francophone tradition

This is the foundation of our work. Through it, we see body, movement, emotions, development and relationships as interconnected aspects, not separate difficulties each needing its own solution.

    Relational psychomotricity

We draw particularly on the work of Bernard Aucouturier, which gives free play and bodily expression a central place in understanding the child. Play is not just a way to build skills: it is a language through which a child expresses their feelings, experiences and relationship with the world.

    Psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches

We don't stop at observing visible behaviour. We try to understand the feelings and inner experiences that may lie behind it, and what the child may be trying to express or cope with through their actions.

    Attachment theory

It helps us understand the importance of emotional safety and the relationship with parents in a child's development, their ability to explore and to regulate their emotions, while recognising that not every childhood difficulty is linked to attachment.

    Developmental psychology and neuroscience

We draw on an understanding of how the brain and emotional and behavioural abilities develop through childhood, to tell apart what a child can do at their age and what still needs time and support to learn.

    Sensory and psychomotor development

We look at how a child's awareness of their body, balance, coordination and response to sensory input develop, and how these shape their sense of comfort and ability to regulate themselves.

    The parent-child relationship

We never look at a child's behaviour in isolation from their relationships. We seek to understand the back-and-forth between child and parents, and how small changes in communication and response can make a difference in daily life.

Together, towards a deeper understanding of your child

Every child has their own experience, every family its own circumstances. We begin by listening and understanding, to find the right next step together.
